A proper community centre, run by the community
The Istead Rise Community Association grew out of a residents’ campaign in the 1970s for somewhere local to meet. The centre opened its doors in November 1980 and has been looked after by volunteers ever since. Today it is home to a friendly members’ bar, a hall that hosts everything from birthday parties to fitness classes, and a calendar of clubs that keeps the place busy all week.
Whether you fancy a quiet pint, a game of snooker, a dance class or a hall for your next event, you will find a warm welcome here.
A relaxed lounge bar
Subsidised drinks and snacks, sport on the screens, a games room with pool and darts, and regular live music, quiz and poker nights.
Space for your event
A main hall seating 150 with its own stage and bar, plus a smaller annex with a fitted kitchen. Ideal for parties, functions and regular bookings.
Something on most days
From bowls and badminton to tai chi, gymnastics and dance, our clubs welcome new faces of every age and ability.
The members’ bar
Your local, without the walk home in the cold
The bar was recently refurbished into a brighter, more open space with new lighting and a comfortable feel. Members and their guests enjoy a good range of drinks and bar snacks at subsidised prices, with major sport shown across the screens and a games room just off the main floor.
Live bands, solo artists, disco nights, quizzes and poker evenings run throughout the year, and they are always among the busiest nights in the diary.

On bank holidays the bar closes at 10:30pm. Times may vary at the manager’s discretion.
Join from £25 a year
Membership is open to everyone in and around Istead Rise. A one-off joining fee of £10, then £25 a year, or £15 for senior citizens. It is the easiest way to support the centre and enjoy everything it offers.
